Although there are usually a variety of approaches to every filling, dentists may develop habits that prevent them from trying a different approach. The goal in providing restorative dentistry should be two-fold. First: do not hurt the patient. The patient should leave happy and the restorations should be long-lasting with as little sensitivity as possible. Second: use the right materials and the right technique to create an environment in which tissue can heal and restorations last.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • List tips for avoiding tooth sensitivity after restorations.
  • List tips to know when to stop drilling.
  • Outline the basic steps of a restoration and materials to use.
